Romantice get-away, take one

"My lovely college friend Kim decided to get married in Hawaii (thanks again, Kim and Justin). In looking over the calendar months ago, it was decided that I alone would make the trip. Summer is a hot time at work for Ross, and it would not be a vacation for me if Jackson came along (no offence to Jackson, but a week in paradise is a little difficult to imagine dealing with dirty diapers and his adjusting to the time change all by myself).

Becky was also making the trip alone, so we decided to have our own “romantic” get away with each other and rented an amazing bungalow on the island of Kauai.

Due to some medication, Becky was not going to be able to partake in the libations available to celebrate Kim and Justin’s wedding. I used this knowledge to break my news to Becky back in July.

I said something along the lines of, “hey, Becky, you’re not the only one who won’t be drinking in Hawaii,” and just waited for the significance of the statement to sink in.

“What! You’re pregnant! Waahoo!” was pretty much her response.

We giggled and continued to plan ourselves a booze-free but FUN-filled Hawaiian vacation.

The vacation and wedding were a smash hit. The trip also rejuvenated my tired first trimester bones, and provided plenty of Vitamin D.

I wasn’t ready to return to real life, but was overjoyed at the sight of my husband and little boy picking me up at the SeaTac airport!"
